Underlayers
Underlay is an essential part of the floor, and a very functional one, as its effect on the flooring is physically felt during use. In the case of underfloor heating, the lowest possible thermal resistance is important as it affects the heating bill. In the case of laminate flooring, which is a noisy floor covering, the ability of the underlay to dampen noise is important. Vinyl floors are thin and flexible with low Click joint adhesion and therefore very demanding on the density of the underlay. If the subfloor is uneven, few underlayers are able to perform in such a way that the flooring laid on top can last without sagging at the joints. In case of limited resources, price is a critical factor in the choice of underlay.
